Storage usually enters a move for one reason: the dates do not line up. The sale completes before the purchase, the lease starts three weeks after the old one ends, or the new place is not ready. Rather than moving twice, your belongings go into storage between the two legs.

We offer short and long-term storage for household goods and commercial inventory, with pickup and re-delivery on your schedule.

How storage-in-transit works

The practical advantage over renting a self-storage unit is that you only handle the goods once.

We pack and load as normal on your moving-out date.
The shipment goes into storage rather than to a new address.
When your dates resolve, we re-deliver and place everything in the new property.

With a self-storage unit you are moving everything twice — into the unit, then out of it — usually carrying it yourself at both ends. Storage-in-transit skips that entirely.

What we store

Household goods of essentially any kind, and commercial inventory, records and equipment.

What cannot go into storage is the same list that cannot go on the truck: petrol and lighter fluid, propane tanks including empty ones, paint and solvents, aerosols, pool chemicals, fireworks, ammunition, fire extinguishers and car batteries. Perishable food is also excluded — for storage this matters more than for a move, because anything organic left in a sealed carton for weeks causes problems for everything around it.

Empty and thoroughly dry every appliance that has held water before it goes in. A washing machine or refrigerator stored damp will develop mould, and the smell transfers.

Before your goods go in

A few things make retrieval much easier later:

Keep the inventory. Everything is listed and numbered. Keep your copy somewhere you will find it in three months.
Think about what you will want early. Anything you may need before the storage period ends should be identified at loading rather than excavated later.
Take seasonal items into account. If the storage period crosses a season, pull out what you will need.
Keep documents, valuables and medication with you. Never in storage.
Photograph valuable items before they are wrapped.

Access and re-delivery

Tell us roughly how long you expect to need, and give us notice when your dates firm up so we can schedule the re-delivery crew. Storage periods can usually be extended if your timeline slips — which it often does, and it is better to tell us early than to work to a date that has already moved.

Valuation while in storage

Worth asking about explicitly rather than assuming. The liability that applies to goods in transit and the cover that applies to goods in storage are not automatically the same thing, and the distinction matters over a period of months.

We will set out in writing what applies to your shipment while it is held, and for how long.

Costs

Storage is usually priced by the volume or weight held and the length of time. The things that move the figure are how much you store and for how long, so decluttering before storage pays twice — once on the move and again every month the goods are held.

Anything you would not pay to replace is not worth paying to store.
