Movers in Rocklin

Rocklin movers covering Stanford Ranch, Whitney Ranch, the Sierra College area and the old quarry town centre. Placer County, licensed since 1979.

Rocklin is effectively two towns, and which one you are moving in or out of tells you almost everything about the job.

There is the original quarry settlement — small, old, tight-knit streets built when the town's business was cutting granite out of the ground. And there is everything that came after it: the large ranch communities built from the 1980s onward, laid out across the rising ground north and east.

A move in one has very little in common with a move in the other.

The old town centre

Historic Rocklin is compact and early. Smaller houses on smaller lots, narrow streets, limited kerb space, and interiors built to the standards of their day — tight hallways, narrow staircases, modest doorways.

If you are moving into one of these, the measurement that matters is the staircase and the turn at either end of it, not the doorway and not the room. Large modern furniture is what defeats older houses, and it almost always fails at the turn rather than the opening.

Access is the other consideration. Some of these streets have no comfortable place to put a full-size truck for several hours, which can mean a longer carry.

Stanford Ranch, Whitney Ranch and the newer communities

The large planned developments are a completely different experience. Modern dimensions throughout, wide staircases with standard turns, attached garages that work well as a staging area, and driveways that take a full-size truck.

Physically these are among the easier moves we do anywhere. The variable is the homeowners' association:

  • Truck size or weight limits on interior streets
  • Permitted moving hours, sometimes excluding Sundays
  • Advance notice requirements
  • Gate codes or guard notification
  • Designated loading areas that may not be outside your door

One call to the association before the day prevents the only thing that reliably goes wrong here. Tell us what they say and we will work to it.

Sierra College moves

Sierra College gives Rocklin a steady rhythm of smaller moves — students, staff and faculty, usually into apartments or shared housing, usually clustered tightly around semester boundaries.

Two things worth knowing. Apartment buildings commonly require a service lift reservation and a certificate of insurance from the mover before granting access, so tell us the building early. And semester-boundary weeks are the busiest in the local calendar — booking a week either side generally gets a better slot, a less rushed crew and more choice of start time.

Smaller moves are still worth surveying. A one-bedroom apartment on a third floor with no lift is a different quote from the same contents on the ground floor.

Ground and driveways

Rocklin's newer development is built across genuine rise rather than flat valley floor, and the granite the town is named for is close to the surface in places. The practical effect is uneven lots and some driveways a loaded truck cannot safely use — too steep, too sharply curved, or with nowhere to turn at the top.

Where that happens we either park on the street and carry, or run a smaller shuttle vehicle between the house and a truck parked somewhere it can sit safely. Our Folsom page explains how shuttling works in more detail, since the same approach applies there.

The useful thing you can do is send us a photograph of the driveway taken from the street when you book. It answers the question immediately, and it is the single most helpful piece of information for a Rocklin quote.

What we do here

Placer County, and what does not change

Rocklin is in Placer County while most of our work is in Sacramento County. For a household move that distinction changes nothing: a move between the two counties is still an intrastate move under California rules.

What changes the regime is crossing the state line. That is what moves you from California's Bureau of Household Goods and Services to federal FMCSA rules, with different estimate requirements and different liability protection — explained on our long-distance moving page.

Estimates

We survey before quoting, as California requires. You receive a not-to-exceed price — the maximum you can be charged, which cannot rise unless you request additional services recorded in writing.
