Movers in Folsom

Folsom movers working hillside driveways, gated communities and the historic Sutter Street district. Local and interstate moving, licensed since 1979.

Folsom is the one part of our service area where the terrain genuinely changes how a move is done. Parts of the city are built on slopes, and a steep or sharply curved driveway can make it impossible to bring a full-size truck near the door.

That is not a problem, but it is something to identify at the survey rather than on the morning.

Where the slope matters

On a hillside property the usual options are to park at the kerb and carry, or to use a smaller shuttle vehicle to ferry loads between the house and a truck parked somewhere it can safely sit. A shuttle adds time, which on an hourly job means cost — so it is worth knowing in advance rather than being surprised by.

What makes a driveway unsuitable for a loaded truck:

  • A gradient steep enough that a loaded vehicle cannot safely stop or reverse
  • A tight curve with no room to straighten
  • A surface that will not take the weight
  • Overhead clearance — branches or structures over the drive
  • Nowhere to turn at the top, meaning a long reverse down a slope

We check all of this when we survey. Somewhere between a tenth and a fifth of Folsom jobs need some adjustment for access, and the ones that do are much better handled by planning than improvisation.

Gated communities

Folsom has a lot of them, and they need arranging ahead:

  • Gate codes or guard notification, with the moving company named
  • Vehicle size restrictions on interior roads
  • Permitted hours, sometimes excluding weekends
  • Designated loading areas

Call the community office before the day and tell us what they require. A truck turned away at a gate is an expensive hour.

The historic district is a different job

The older housing around Sutter Street and the original town centre has little in common with the hillside subdivisions a few miles away. Smaller period homes, narrower streets, tighter access, and interiors built to earlier dimensions — narrow staircases, tight landings, doorways that will not take large modern furniture.

If you are moving into one of these, measure the staircase and the turn at both ends of it, not just the doorway and the room. It is almost always the turn that defeats a piece of furniture.

The newer neighbourhoods

Most of Folsom's later development — the areas built from the 1990s onward, and the newer expansion south of the highway — is straightforward. Modern dimensions, attached garages, wide enough streets, standard stair geometry. Apart from the HOA rules and the occasional slope, these are among the easier moves we do.

What we do here

Folsom generates a disproportionate amount of our specialty work — pianos, pool tables and safes, often in houses with a slope and a staircase between the item and the truck. Those are jobs where crew size and the right equipment matter more than anything else, and where a general crew with standard dollies is the wrong tool.

Practical advice specific to Folsom

Tell us about the driveway when you book, not when we arrive. A photograph from the street is enough.

Sort gate access in advance.

For a hillside property, think about where the truck can actually sit. If you have seen delivery vehicles struggle at your address, we will struggle too, and it is better to plan a shuttle than to find out.

Book early in summer. Folsom gets the same valley heat as the rest of the region, with more stairs and slopes to carry up.

Estimates

California requires a visual inspection before a written estimate — phone and internet estimates are prohibited and may not be enforceable. In Folsom that requirement is doing real work: an estimate given without seeing the driveway is a number, not a quote.

You receive a not-to-exceed price: the maximum chargeable unless you request additional services recorded in writing.
