Carmichael is not a service area for us. It is where we are.
Our yard is at 6640 Fair Oaks Boulevard, and it has been the base for this company since 1979. When we say we know the neighbourhood, we mean our trucks have been parked in it for more than four decades — which, on an hourly local move, is worth more than it sounds.
What moving in Carmichael is actually like
Carmichael is unincorporated Sacramento County rather than an incorporated city, which has a few practical consequences. Services come from the county rather than a city hall, and the street parking rules that complicate moves in the City of Sacramento largely do not apply here. There is no residential permit parking regime to work around, and on most Carmichael streets a truck can park where it needs to be.
That alone makes a Carmichael move meaningfully cheaper than an equivalent job in Midtown.
The housing stock is mixed and mostly low-rise. A lot of mid-century ranch homes on generous lots, some later infill, and larger properties toward the river. Two things follow from that:
- Single-storey layouts are common, and a move with no staircase is substantially faster than one with.
- Driveways take a full-size truck, so carry distances are short.
The trees are the one real constraint. Carmichael has serious mature oak canopy, particularly on the older streets and the lots backing onto the American River Parkway. On some of them a full-height truck cannot get under the branches, and we park at the kerb and carry rather than pull up the drive. We know which ones.
The larger river-side properties come with their own quirks — long driveways, gates, occasional slope, and sometimes a surface that will not take a loaded truck in wet weather.

Downsizing in Carmichael
A lot of our Carmichael work is families who have been in the same house for thirty or forty years and are moving to something smaller — often to a retirement community, sometimes to be nearer adult children elsewhere.

The practical advantages of a local base
Being eight minutes from most Carmichael addresses rather than across the county means travel time is minimal, a forgotten item or extra equipment is a short run rather than a lost hour, and we can usually be more flexible on timing.
It also means we know the back roads — which matters more than it should in a county where a loaded truck and a narrow, root-lifted residential street are a bad combination.
