Citrus Heights is the most predictable part of our service area, and that works in your favour.
Most of the city was built out between the 1960s and the 1980s as suburban tract housing, and the consequence is unusual consistency: single-storey homes, regular lots, wide streets, standard driveways and a layout that repeats across whole neighbourhoods. We have moved enough of these houses to know what a quote should look like before we walk in.
Consistency means fewer surprises, and on an hourly local move fewer surprises means a tighter estimate.
What the housing stock means in practice
Single-storey is the norm. A move with no staircase is substantially faster than one with, and it removes the most common cause of furniture not fitting — the turn at the top or bottom of the stairs.
Driveways take a full-size truck, so carry distances are short.
Street parking is not contested, unlike the City of Sacramento. There is no residential permit parking regime here to work around.
Three things to watch in houses of this era:
- Doorways and hallways are narrower than modern equivalents. Large sectional sofas and oversized modern furniture sometimes need disassembly that would not be necessary in a newer house.
- Garage conversions are common, which can mean the route from the converted room to the drive runs through the house rather than straight out.
- Mature landscaping. Forty to sixty years of growth means some driveways now have overhead branches, and a few streets have canopy low enough to matter for a full-height truck.
Birdcage, Sunrise and the arterials
The neighbourhoods around the Birdcage and Sunrise corridors are the densest part of the city, with apartment and condo complexes alongside the tract housing.
For managed buildings the usual constraints apply: service lift reservations where there is a lift, restricted moving hours, designated loading areas, and often a certificate of insurance required by building management before access is granted. Our apartment and condo moving page covers these.
Commercial moves along the arterials are mostly retail and small office — see commercial moving.
Downsizing and long-held houses
A large share of our Citrus Heights work is households who bought when these neighbourhoods were new and are now moving to something smaller, or to be closer to family.
Those moves are mostly about deciding what comes, not about carrying. A three or four bedroom house held for forty years holds a great deal, and the useful first step is always the same: get the floor plan of the new place and measure before deciding anything. It turns an emotional question into a practical one.
Our senior moving page sets out how we handle these, including working at the household's pace rather than the clock's.

We are close
Our yard is in Carmichael, immediately south of Citrus Heights. Travel time on a Citrus Heights job is minimal, which matters on an hourly move, and a forgotten piece of equipment is a short run rather than a lost hour.
Practical advice specific to Citrus Heights
Measure wide furniture against the hallway, not the doorway. In houses of this era the hall is usually the tighter constraint.
Flag a garage conversion when you book, so we plan the route.
Book early in summer. The valley heat is the same here as everywhere else in the region, and a single-storey house with the power already off is hot work by midday.
